If you want to use an element you've created on one page again, you can copy it to another page on your site by hovering over the divider, clicking on the little green arrow that shows up on the blue top bar, selecting the page you want it to appear. It shows up on the top of the page you selected. Just move it down to where you'd like to use it. If you'd like to move an element to another page, do the same, except select "Move to" instead. |
This works for any content area element you create in Weebly, including slideshows, image collections, custom html, etc.

It's easy to change the color of linked text in Weebly. Select the Design tab in the Weebly editor section. Then select Design Options in the left hand column. Then select Links. Click on Link, Visited and Hover and choose your colors. If you don't like the standard colors, use a color sampling tool, like Digital Color Meter (Macs) or Eyedropper (PC) to find a hex code for a custom color. It must have a hashtag (#) followed by a code of six numbers and/or letters following it. Type in your code and select OK. For more info on choosing more subtle colors in your Weebly site, check out the Colors category in the right hand column of this blog.
Weebly has changed their method of archiving.
It's easy, only takes a minute and — if you make a drastic mistake in any part of your existing site, or worse yet, accidentally delete the whole thing (yes, sigh, it's possible) — it can save your bacon! Using an archive, you can quickly recreate any part of your site. The trick is to archive frequently, because you can't restore what was not saved. Click on "Archiving Sites" in the right-hand column keyword section, below, or see previous post titled "How do I Archive my Weebly Site?" (12/27/2011) Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important for leading search engines to your site. There are two places in Weebly to enter your site's SEO — one is for the site in general and one is for each page. Plus, you can tag images to add to the validity of your SEO choices. To add SEO to your site's individual pages and more . . .
If you would like a divider line in a different color or width from the standard one in Weebly, you can easily code one by dropping in a Custom HTML section where you want it. Below, is a 5 pixel thick solid purple line (hex code #441468) that runs 100% of the width of the column (any column): _No, and sort of, yes. No, in the sense that the site is built online, using Weebly templates and their server-side program(s). Yes, because you can archive your site (see Archiving Sites in right-hand column below, under Categories) and use it to get a huge head start elsewhere.
You can use the archive files to upload to a different server. The base structure should remain and all your content. However, your blog posts will not copy and custom fonts, slideshows and contact forms and the like will probably not work, as they're a part of Weebly's system. Any editing of your site from then on would need to be done traditionally with a website editor. Also, see note, below about the copyright of the weebly theme. Re-build your site at another template-based website service, your Weebly archive can still be very useful . . .. _I don't understand the deep inner-workings of Weebly's servers or programming, but every once in a while, things just stop functioning.
Before getting clicky and frustrated, close out and re-enter the weebly editor via the blue ENTER button. If just closing out doesn't help, close out, log out, and log back in. Usually, that solves the problem without making things worse by . . . _Yes to all. The captions are the sort that runs on the top or bottom of the image in a dark translucent strip. But there is a feature to add links, and you can re-order, add and delete images any time you like, so those are nice things to make up for the caption limitation . . ..
Edited: Clarified steps and added new pictures, because my info was out of date. Most website builders offer swatch palettes with a rather garish selection of "web safe" colors. Weebly is no different, except, thankfully, they let you enter your own colors, too.
Since computer monitors are much more sophisticated than they were when that "web safe" distinction was made, you can choose other, more subtle colors for your site with confidence. The next challenge is finding the codes for the colors . . .. |
SIRI WEBER FEENEY
Due to elder care issues, I am not able to respond to questions, as I am concentrating on working on existing clients' updates and further projects.
I apologize to those who wrote in and weren't posted. I kept thinking I'd be able to respond and wasn't. Please read the existing posts for answers and don't forget to check the comments. Several related issues were covered within the comments and there are good suggestions from commenters, as well. Also, with the new Weebly interface formatting, click around and you'll find what seems to be all the old features behind visually simplified icons. So, for example, when wishing to change a page type (no header, tall header, etc.), click PAGES, click the page's name in the list, and you'll get all the different types to choose from. If you're really stuck, you can also call Weebly at 1-844-493-3259, also check out Weebly's blog, Weebly tutorials on YouTube and, if you're adventuring into coding, w3schools.com is terrific. My clients tend to be owners of small businesses, writers, illustrators, and artists who need to update their sites frequently.
A template site is easy to update. It frees you from having to depend on someone else to make changes. When someone asks what I'd recommend, these days I say. . . "Switch over to a template website and customize the theme to get rid of the cookie-cutter look." Categories
