If you want to use an element you've created on one page again, you can copy it to another page on your site by hovering over the divider, clicking on the little green arrow that shows up on the blue top bar, selecting the page you want it to appear. It shows up on the top of the page you selected. Just move it down to where you'd like to use it. If you'd like to move an element to another page, do the same, except select "Move to" instead. |
This works for any content area element you create in Weebly, including slideshows, image collections, custom html, etc.

If you would like a divider line in a different color or width from the standard one in Weebly, you can easily code one by dropping in a Custom HTML section where you want it. Below, is a 5 pixel thick solid purple line (hex code #441468) that runs 100% of the width of the column (any column): _No, and sort of, yes. No, in the sense that the site is built online, using WebsiteTonight templates and their server-side program(s). The "yes" part is not much, but you can copy any special html you have added, write down the color (hex) numbers of your text, and use this info to help speed your rebuild elsewhere . . ..
_Yes to all. The captions are the sort that runs on the top or bottom of the image in a dark translucent strip. But there is a feature to add links, and you can re-order, add and delete images any time you like, so those are nice things to make up for the caption limitation . . ..
Edited: Clarified steps and added new pictures, because my info was out of date. Most website builders offer swatch palettes with a rather garish selection of "web safe" colors. Weebly is no different, except, thankfully, they let you enter your own colors, too.
Since computer monitors are much more sophisticated than they were when that "web safe" distinction was made, you can choose other, more subtle colors for your site with confidence. The next challenge is finding the codes for the colors . . .. _There are three places within the Weebly interface to change text colors:
1) under the DESIGN tab at the top of the page, where you decide the format of your SITE TITLE, PARAGRAPH TITLE, PARAGRAPH TEXT, and LINKS. Clicking on the color swatch will lead you to a swatch palette. Down at the bottom of the swatch palette, there's a white box where you can type in a hex code for a custom color. It must have a hashtag (#) followed by a code of six numbers and/or letters following it. For example, the hex code for black, is #000000, the coral color used on this page is #CC9933. Type in your code and select OK. 2) Select any text within a text block, and click on the capital A with an underline to select a swatch color or type in your own custom color. The method is the same as above. 3) for those familiar with CSS coding, under the DESIGN tab at the top of the page, in the left-hand editing column, under the Change Theme and Change Fonts buttons, there is an EDIT HTML/CSS button. Clicking on that will take you to a split screen editor, where you will be able to change the site's CSS and see a preview of your changes before committing them with the SAVE button. __(This post has been altered to reflect the improved column-building interface. Weebly keeps making great new improvements, darn them!)
1) Make sure you're on the ELEMENTS tab, select the MULTIPLE COLUMNS layout icon, and drag it to the content area of your page. You can adjust the width of the columns by touching the vertical bar(s) and once you get the <> arrow, sliding them/it to the right or left. 2) If you want more columns, hover over the blue bar at the top of the section and select the number you wish. Slide the vertical bars to adjust your column widths. Want more than five columns? Select four columns in your first section and pull down another MULTIPLE COLUMN section, then choose what works for you. _Not exactly. You can't download an archive of the site to your computer, but GoDaddy does back up your site when you first publish it, for later versions if you select that feature when you are publishing a change to the site online, or when you select MANAGE>BACKUP/RESTORE, enter a name for the backup and click SAVE WEBSITE. (Do back it up!) Make a backup of your existing, even messed-up site before restoring, just in case.
Complete restore: if you have a disaster, GoDaddy lets you restore your site completely from one of up to five backups, however there is no way to select just one page or block to restore using this function. Partial restore: this workaround is especially helpful if you've messed up just one block (or just a few) while doing major changes to your site, but it needs to be done carefully . . .. |
SIRI WEBER FEENEY
Due to elder care issues, I am not able to respond to questions, as I am concentrating on working on existing clients' updates and further projects.
I apologize to those who wrote in and weren't posted. I kept thinking I'd be able to respond and wasn't. Please read the existing posts for answers and don't forget to check the comments. Several related issues were covered within the comments and there are good suggestions from commenters, as well. Also, with the new Weebly interface formatting, click around and you'll find what seems to be all the old features behind visually simplified icons. So, for example, when wishing to change a page type (no header, tall header, etc.), click PAGES, click the page's name in the list, and you'll get all the different types to choose from. If you're really stuck, you can also call Weebly at 1-844-493-3259, also check out Weebly's blog, Weebly tutorials on YouTube and, if you're adventuring into coding, w3schools.com is terrific. Thank you, ~ Siri Follow me:
My clients tend to be owners of small businesses, writers, illustrators, and artists who need to update their sites frequently.
A template site is easy to update. It frees you from having to depend on someone else to make changes. When someone asks what I'd recommend, these days I say. . . "Switch over to a template website and customize the theme to get rid of the cookie-cutter look." Categories
